Interesting Finds from April
Let’s take a minute to discuss a few things that sparked my interest this month.
Happy Friday! Is it just me, or did this month FLY BY? I looked up and Monday starts the month of May. As we close out this month, and head towards a new one, I’m sharing some dope newsletters, podcasts, and books I’ve come across this month for you to explore.
Notes from Erin
Notes from Erin is a bi-weekly newsletter on all things music and reading-related! In To be creative: an act, she breaks down a book that I recently added to my list from Rick Rubin: The Creative Act: A Way of Being. Her analysis and the learnings she provided got me even more excited to do a deep dive into the book. FYI I love a good morning article read, so it’s clutch when she shares lists of interesting things for her subscribers to check out as well. You can check out more of her notes and subscribe here.
Too Smart For This
Too Smart for This, hosted by Alexis Barber, is a podcast that helps multifaceted women untangle society's expectations of them through candid conversations and tangible tips for crafting your own journey. It was my first time listening to this podcast and it won’t be the last. This episode with multi-hyphenate plus beauty and style expert Blake Newby did not disappoint. I discovered this episode at a perfect time because they both dropped gems on doing it all and building a career on their own terms. I resonated with this episode a lot, so definitely take a listen. Love the quote from Blake about not letting people dim your light, “You gotta let stars be stars.”
Silent Tears: Autism from a Sister's Perspective
I love working with creatives and builders, and I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by them on the daily. Melanie Akwule, Founder and CEO of MINWO and now author, has launched her book Silent Tears on Kickstarter! Silent Tears is a collection of short stories that are centered around key memories of her life with Gregory and the emotions that were present at the time. This story is 20+ years in the making, so I’m excited to see the impact this book will have on the world. I backed this campaign, and so can you! Check out her Kickstarter campaign to learn more.
